In 1973 villages in 353 talukas of the state, the ground water level decreased by one meter as compared to the average, while in more than 1300 villages up to three meters.
A survey conducted by the Groundwater Survey Department revealed that the groundwater level has decreased
The groundwater survey department concluded this through a study of groundwater level measured by 3,694 observation wells in the state.
‘Decrease in ground water level in 372 villages in nine out of 13 talukas of Pune district
There are 186 villages where the ground water level has decreased by one meter, while the ground water level has decreased by 125 meters from one to two meters.
The number of villages whose groundwater level has dropped by two to three meters and more than three meters is 20 and 41 respectively
Water level incident in villages in any taluka of Satara, Sangli district
Ground water level in wells in 13 talukas in six districts of the state like Chandrapur, Akola, Amravati, Nagpur, Yavatmal was found to be more than one meter.
238 villages in these 13 talukas are estimated to be facing drinking water shortage
